The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and spreading shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those of the right hand. 38
