Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 labouring, weary, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And cups put in place 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
