He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 lofty and pure, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
