The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 thy robes purify 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He looked (at others); 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
