He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
