۞ Gather all the wicked together and their comrades, and those they had worshipped 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 And detain them, for they will be questioned." 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] 38 “And you will not be compensated except for your deeds.” 39 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 Fruits; and they will be honored 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 white, sparkling (wine), a delight to the drinkers. 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them will be mates of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye, 48 (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished? 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 It is a tree that grows at the bottom of Hell. 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 and We sent among them warners; 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
