Indeed this is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe; 192 the Faithful Spirit has brought it down 193 into your heart, so that you may be a warner, 194 In the plain Arabic language. 195 And verily it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a sign unto them that the learned among the Children of Isra'il know it? 197 Had We revealed it to any of the non-Arabs, 198 And he had read it unto them, even then they would not have been believers therein. 199 Thus have We caused it to enter into the hearts of the guilty. 200 they shall not believe in it until they see the painful punishment 201 It shall come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 They will say, "Can we be granted any respite?" 203 So for Our punishment are they impatient? 204 Seest thou? If We do let them enjoy (this life) for a few years, 205 And then cometh that which they were promised, 206 of what avail to them will be all their past enjoyments? 207 Never have We destroyed a town without sending down messengers to warn it, 208 By way of reminder; and We never are unjust. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 they are not supposed to do so. Nor do have they the ability for such a task. 211 Verily far from hearing are they removed. 212 So invoke not with Allah another ilah (god) lest you be among those who receive punishment. 213 and warn your nearest kinsmen; 214 And be kind and humble to the believers who follow you. 215 Then if they disobey thee, say: "I am free (of responsibility) for what ye do!" 216 Put thy trust in the All-mighty, the All-compassionate 217 who can see whether you stand up 218 And watches your movements among those who prostrate in prayer. 219 Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom do the devils descend? 221 They come to every sinful liar. 222 They give ear, but most of them are liars. 223 And as for the poets -- it is the misled who follow them. 224 Seest thou not that they wander distracted in every valley?- 225 And that they say what they practise not?- 226 Except those who believe and do good and remember Allah much, and defend themselves after they are oppressed; and they who act unjustly shall know to what final place of turning they shall turn back. 227
