The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
