'This', said he (Pharaoh) to his Council, 'is a cunning sorcerer 34 "His plan is to get you out of your land by his sorcery; then what is it ye counsel?" 35 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send gatherers to the cities.” 36 Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician." 37 So the magicians were assembled for the appointment of a well-known day. 38 And it was said unto the people: Are ye (also) gathering? 39 (They said): Aye, so that we may follow the wizards if they are the winners. 40 And when the magicians came, they said to Firon: Shall we get a reward if we are the vanquishers? 41 He replied, "You will then be my closest associates". 42 Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!" 43 So they cast down their cords and their rods and said: By Firon's power, we shall most surely be victorious. 44 [But] then Moses threw his staff - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions. 45 And the magicians were thrown down prostrate; 46 [and] exclaimed: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 47 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 Said Firaun, “You accepted faith in him before I permitted you! He is indeed your leader who taught you magic; so now you will come to know; I swear, I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides, and crucify all of you.” 49 They said, “No harm (in it), we will return to our Lord.” 50 "Only, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers!" 51
