The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And children present [with him] 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
