The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 and enjoins piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
