'Aad denied the messengers 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And orchards and springs. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
