The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it covers 1 And the day resplendent 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
