Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
