He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
