And the Thamud belied the warnings. 23 And said: "Should we follow only one man among us? In that case we shall be in error and insane." 24 How is it that he has received guidance? In fact, he is the most untruthfull and arrogant person". 25 [And God said:] "On the morrow they will come to know who the boastful liar is! 26 Behold, [O Salih] We are letting loose this she-camel as a test for them; and thou but watch them, and contain thyself in patience. 27 And declare thou unto them that water hath been divided between them; every drinking shall be by turns. 28 Then they called their fellow, and he took the sword and hamstrung her, 29 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 30 Verily, We sent against them a single Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.), and they became like the dry stubble of a fold-builder. 31 Indeed, We have made the Quran easy to learn lessons from. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 32 The people of Lot rejected Our warnings. 33 Surely We sent upon them a stonestorm, except Lut's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak, 34 As favor from us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful. 35 Surely Lot warned his people that We shall seize them (with Our chastisement), but they doubted the warnings. 36 they even wanted to seduce his guests -- but We blinded them, and said, "Taste My punishment now that you have scorned My warnings!" -- 37 Early on the morrow an abiding Punishment seized them: 38 "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 39 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 40
