The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
