The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 and obeys its Lord as it must, 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 And whoever is given his record of deeds behind his back – 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 And [by] the moon when it becomes full 18 Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 Therefore, give them the news of a painful punishment. 24 Except those who believed and did good deeds – for them is a reward that will never end. 25
