The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O the Cloaked One - Prophet Mohammed - peace and blessings be upon him! 1 arise, and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked around, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said, "This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men." 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers - in order that the People given the Books may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers - and so that the People given the Books and the Muslims may not have any doubt - and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, "What does Allah mean by this amazing example?" This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
