The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 On an open record. 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 such as play at plunging, 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
