And certainly We created man of clay that gives forth sound, of black mud fashioned in shape. 26 And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind. 27 When your Lord said to the angels, "I will create the human being out of pure mud-moulded clay. 28 When I have formed him and breathed My spirit into him, fall down in prostration before him," 29 So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. 31 He said: O Iblis! what excuse have you that you are not with those who make obeisance? 32 Iblis replied, "I did not want to prostrate before a human being whom You have created out of mud-moulded clay". 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 A curse shall be on you till the Day of Recompense' 35 He said, “My Lord! Grant me respite till the day when they will all be raised.” 36 The Lord said, "Your request is granted 37 Until the Day of the time well-known." 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 Except Thy servants from among them, the devoted ones. 40 Said He, 'This is for Me a straight path: 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 "It (Hell) has seven gates, for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
