The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ NEAR HAS COME the reckoning for men, but they turn away in remissness. 1 no Remembrance from their Lord comes to them lately renewed, but they listen to it yet playing, 2 their hearts are diverted. The harmdoers mutter to one another: 'Is this anything else but a human like yourself? What, will you follow sorcery with your eyes open' 3 He says: 'My Lord knows what is said in the heavens and the earth, and He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.' 4 "Nay," they say: "[Muhammad propounds] the most involved and confusing of dreams!" "Nay, but he has invented [all] this!" - "Nay, but he is [only] a poet!" - [and,] "Let him, then, come unto us with a miracle, just as those [prophets] of old were sent [with miracles]?" 5 Not a [single] city which We destroyed believed before them, so will they believe? 6 And We sent not before thee but men unto whom We revealed; so ask the people of the admonition if ye know not. 7 And We did not make the prophets forms not eating food, nor were they immortal [on earth]. 8 Our promise to them came true and We saved them and those whom We wanted, but destroyed the unjust people. 9 We have sent down to you a Book which has a reminder for you. Do you not understand? 10
