The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the Great News 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
