Said [pharaoh] unto the great ones around him: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge 34 who seeks to expel you from your land by his sorcery. What is your counsel' 35 They said: put off him and his brother, and send unto the cities callers. 36 who shall assemble before thee all sorcerers of great knowledge" 37 The sorcerers were gathered at the appointed time on a wellknown day, 38 And it was said unto the people: Are ye (also) gathering? 39 (They said): "We may haply follow the magicians if they are victorious." 40 So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Fir'aun (Pharaoh): "Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners?" 41 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 42 Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw! 43 So they cast their ropes and rods, and said: "By the glory of Pharaoh, we shall be victorious." 44 Therefore Moosa put forth his staff – so it immediately began swallowing all their fabrications. 45 So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 46 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 and the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 Fir'awn said: ye believed in him ere I gave you leave. Verily he is your chief who hath taught you magic, so ye shall surely come to know. Surely I shall cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and surely I shall crucify you all. 49 They said: no harm! verily unto our Lord we are to return. 50 Verily we long that our Lord shall forgive us our faults because we have been the first of the believers 51
