The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 And gardens and springs. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
