The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
