The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the mount. 1 and the Book inscribed 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
