He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man look at his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
