The tribe of Thamud also rejected Our warnings: 23 So they said: What! a single mortal from among us! Shall we follow him? Most surely we shall in that case be in sure error and distress: 24 Hath the admonition been laid upon him from amongst us! Aye! he is a liar insolent. 25 (To him We said): 'Tomorrow they shall know who is the arrogant liar. 26 Surely We are going to send the she-camel as a trial for them; therefore watch them and have patience. 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns). 28 In response they called their companion – he therefore caught and hamstrung the she-camel. 29 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 30 Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen. 31 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? 32 The people of Lot rejected Our warning. 33 We sent a sandstorm against them which destroyed them all, except the family of Lot, whom We saved at the break of dawn, 34 As a favour from Us. That is how We reward the grateful. 35 Surely Lot warned his people that We shall seize them (with Our chastisement), but they doubted the warnings. 36 And they tried to persuade him regarding his guests – We therefore blinded their eyes, “So taste My punishment, and My warnings.” 37 And indeed, the everlasting punishment overcame them early in the morning. 38 So taste My chastisement and My warning. 39 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 40
