The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there is no denying its coming 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And shade extended 30 and flowing water 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
