The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and shade extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 and raised couches 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
