The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
