He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe of God 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
