The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 And We see it nigh. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
