The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
