The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
