Nay, and by the moon, 32 And the night when it withdraweth 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 as a warner to mortals. 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Except those on the right side. 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 Of evil-doers: 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, everyone of them desires to have sheets of revelations unfolded before them -- 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
