The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
