The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Indeed there has been a time for man, when even his name did not exist anywhere. 1 Verily We created man out of a drop of intermingled sperm so that We might try him, and We therefore endowed him with hearing and sight. 2 Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful. 3 Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. 4 The virtuous shall drink from a cup tempered with camphor water. 5 A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth. 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 those who, for the love of Him, feed the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 (saying): 'We feed you only desirous of the Face of Allah; we seek of you neither recompense nor thanks, 9 "Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)." 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 And they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger 17 (Of) a fountain therein which is named Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be attended by youths who will not age -- when you see them you will think them to be like sprinkled pearls -- 19 And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent. 20 Upon those [blest] will be garments of green silk and brocade; and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Sustainer will them to drink of a drink most pure. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
