The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By those (angels) that pluck out the soul from depths, 1 and those that draw out violently, 2 By the angels who glide swimmingly, 3 and yet overtake [one another] with swift overtaking: 4 And by those angels who arrange to do the Commands of their Lord, (so verily, you disbelievers will be called to account). 5 On the day when the trembling one will tremble. (The disbelievers will certainly taste the punishment.) 6 followed by the succeeding, 7 Hearts on that Day will be throbbing; 8 Eyes be lowered in submission. 9 They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]? 10 After having turned to carious bones?" 11 They said: That then would be a return occasioning loss. 12 But all it will take is a single blast, 13 And lo! they will be awakened. 14 Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses? 15 When his Lord called upon him in the holy valley, twice, 16 "Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed. 17 And say to him: "Would you purify yourself (from the sin of disbelief by becoming a believer)", 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 And he showed him the greatest sign, 20 In response, he denied and disobeyed. 21 Then he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah). 22 then he mustered 23 Saying: "I am your lord, most high", 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 Surely there is a great lesson in it for whoever would fear (Allah). 26
