He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olives and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
