The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe to the defrauders, 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up? 4 unto a mighty day 5 the Day when all men shall stand before the Sustainer of all the worlds? 6 No indeed; the Book of the libertines is in Sijjin; 7 And what do you know, how (wretched) the Sijjeen is! 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 10 and those who have rejected the Day of Judgment. 11 And none can deny it except every transgressor beyond bounds, (in disbelief, oppression and disobedience of Allah, the sinner!) 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." 13 No! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 Indeed! On that Day a barrier will be set between them and their Lord, 15 then they shall roast in Hell. 16 and be told: "This is the [very thing] to which you were wont to give the lie!" 17 By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in 'Illiyun. 18 And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun? 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 The ones nearest to God will bring it to public. 21 The righteous shall indeed be blissful, 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 Thou wilt know in their faces the radiance of delight. 24 They will be served the choicest wine, sealed 25 pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: 26 And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 and when they returned to their people they returned blithely, 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. 33 So this day it is the believers who laugh at the disbelievers. 34 while reclining on couches and reviewing (the bounties given to them). 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
