Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 with a flowing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
