Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, weary, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a high Garden. 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions ranged 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 you are not their keeper. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
