Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
