The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
