The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
