Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth: 2 We verily, have made it a Quran in Arabic, that you may be able to understand (its meanings and its admonitions). 3 Truly, it is inscribed in the Original Book, in Our keeping; it is sublime and full of wisdom. 4 Then should We turn the message away, disregarding you, because you are a transgressing people? 5 How many a prophet did We send among the men of old! 6 No Prophet came to them whom they did not mock. 7 so We destroyed those who were mightier in courage than they. And the example of the ancients has passed away. 8 Yet if you were to ask them: “Who created the heavens and the earth?” they will certainly say: “The All-Mighty, the All-Knowing has created them.” 9 Who has made the earth a cradle for you and made thereon paths for you so that, hopefully, you may find your way 10 And Who sends down water (rain) from the sky in due measure. Then We revive a dead land therewith, and even so you will be brought forth (from the dead), 11 He Who created all the pairs, and appointed for you ships and cattle whereupon ye ride. 12 So that when you sit astride of them and think of the bounties of your Lord, you may say: "All glory to Him who subjugated these for us. We were incapable of doing so. 13 "And to our Lord, surely, must we turn back!" 14 And they allot to Him a portion of His bondmen! Lo! man is verily a mere ingrate. 15
