The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
