۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said, 'Who has. done this with our gods? Surely he is one of the evildoers.' 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said to the fire, "Be cool and peaceful (with Abraham)". 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 And (as for) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors; 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
